Occupational Therapy promotes regaining your independence with your activities of daily living (i.e. dressing, bathing, eating, and meal preparation) after an unexpected injury, a recent illness, or a life changing disease/disability. We strive to teach you how to adapt your living environment to ensure a safe and meaningful transition back to your prior living situation, or a new living environment. Speech Language Therapy provides treatment to adults who are having difficulty with eating, drinking and swallowing as well as address communication difficulties. Your therapy session with a Speech Language Pathologist would focus on restoring, or learning compensatory strategies to improve your communication and swallowing skills. All therapists at the NYSVH utilize ACP’s advanced treatment programs with many of our residents to address a broad range of conditions including pain, edema, neuromuscular dysfunction, dysphagia/swallowing, stroke recovery, hip or knee replacement, contractures, arthritis, slow healing wounds, carpal tunnel syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, COPD, herpes zoster, and fall prevention. ACP’s protocols incorporate the use of omnicycle for exercising, electrical stimulation (E-Stim, ultrasound, short wave diathermy, and biofeedback through virtual reality. Together, we can meet your individual goals for rehabilitation. You have the opportunity to participate in a short stay with the goal of returning back home and into your community, or to improve your level of independence with a goal of remaining for long term care at our home. We commend ourselves on offering all of our residents an individualized therapy program.
