Hospitalization data was provided by the Bureau of Biometrics and 
Health Statistics, New York State Department of Health.

Data fields (in order of which they appear):

GEO		Geographical unit
		Upstate: New York State excluding 5 New York City 
                       counties (Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens,
                       and Richmond)

		New York City: 5 New York City counties (Bronx, Kings,
                       New York, Queens, and Richmond)

		State: Entire New York State (include all 62 counties)
								
AGE		999 indicates All ages; all other are age groups

SEX 		1 = Male, 2 = Female, 0 = Male+Female

YEAR		Year of hospitalization

MONTH 		1 through 12 indicate January to December. 
		0 indicates total for all 12 months.

OUTCOME		Annual Count: Total number of hospitalizations in a 
			      given year

		Count: Total number of hospitalizations in combined 
		       years

		Annual Rate: {(Total Number of Admissions / Total 
			     Population)/Number of Years}/10000 

		Daily Average: Total Admissions in a Month / Number 
                               of Days in a month
	
		Age-Adjusted: Rates are 5 years age adjusted, using 
                              year 2000 US Standard population, per 
                              10,000 population.
