| Action Description for DOH Webpage: | Temporary license limitation in New York State prohibiting the physician from performing forceps deliveries or the use of vacuum extraction unless performed in the presence of a board certified obstetrician. This restriction remains in effect until the physician successfully completes a Clinical Competency Assessment in the areas of the indications for and the use of operative delivery treatment such as vacuum extraction and the use of forceps. The physician as well as affiliated hospitals and other health care facilities are required to submit documentation that she is in compliance with this restriction. When the physician is deemed proficient in the areas of these operative delivery treatments, she will be allowed to resume the use of these techniques and she will be placed on probation for three years. The physician is also required to complete a continuing education program in the area of medical record documentation. |
